Why Mainspell

What sets this workshop apart

A few things that matter when you are handing over something you care about.

Written reports, not assumptions

Every inspection produces a written note covering what was found and what the options are. Nothing is assumed; everything is explained.

No work without your word

Particularly for older pieces, each step in a refurbishment is confirmed with you before it begins. Surprises in watchmaking tend to be expensive.

Tools matched to the movement

Different movements call for different approaches. We select tools and lubricants suited to the calibre being worked on, not a one-size method.

Local workshop, direct contact

Based in Bang Lamung, Chonburi. You deal directly with the person doing the work — there is no relay through a chain of staff.

Clear timelines, realistic estimates

A timeline is given when the watch is taken in. If something changes, you are told promptly — not left guessing when to expect it back.

Respectful handling of original parts

Where original components are still serviceable, they are kept. Replacement is discussed, not assumed, especially on watches with collector or sentimental value.

Common Questions

Things people often ask

How do I know if my watch needs servicing?
Signs worth paying attention to include noticeable changes in timekeeping, a rotor that sounds rougher than before, moisture marks under the crystal, or simply a longer period since the last service than you can recall. A Movement Inspection gives you a clear picture without committing to further work.
What happens during the inspection?
The case is opened, accessible surfaces are cleaned under magnification, and the movement is observed running. We note the condition of the dial, hands, crystal, crown, case back, and the movement itself. You receive written notes and a list of options — no pressure to proceed with anything.
How long does a self-winding service take?
Typically two to three weeks. The movement is fully disassembled, ultrasonically cleaned, dried, reassembled with fresh lubricants, adjusted across positions, and then run on a timing machine. We do not rush timing checks; the watch is observed for several days before it is returned.
My watch is quite old. Can you still work on it?
Older watches are often the most interesting to work on. The Heritage Refurbishment service is designed specifically for pieces where age is part of their character. We source period parts where we can, and any decisions about refinishing or replacement are made with you, not for you.
What are the prices?
Movement Inspection & Report is ฿3,400. Self-Winding Service is ฿5,900. Heritage Refurbishment starts at ฿10,900, with the final figure depending on parts required and scope of work agreed. All prices are in Thai Baht and include VAT. You receive a written quote before anything begins.
Is my watch safe while it is with you?
Watches in our care are kept in a locked workshop. Each piece is logged on arrival with photographs of its condition before any work begins. We handle a limited number of pieces at any one time, so nothing sits in a queue unattended for weeks.
