Competitive Advantages
Six things that matter when choosing a repairer
Formally trained watchmaker
The lead repairer trained in watchmaking disciplines — not a self-taught generalist picking up technique as they go.
Written assessment before commitment
You receive a written condition report and clear options before any service work begins. Nothing proceeds without your agreement.
Correct lubricants for each movement
Different watch components need different lubricants. We use current-standard watchmaking oils selected per calibre, per friction point.
Extended timing observation
After reassembly, every watch is run and observed across positions for several days. We do not rush the timing check to meet a quick turnaround.
Heritage piece expertise
Older watches require a different approach — preserving original finish and character while restoring function. We have worked on pieces from several decades back.
Direct contact with the repairer
You communicate with the person actually working on your watch. No relay through front desk staff who cannot answer technical questions.
Expertise
Watchmaking knowledge you can ask about
The lead repairer at Mainspell trained formally in watchmaking and has worked on mechanical movements across a range of Swiss and Japanese calibres. This is not a generalist repair shop that also fixes watches alongside other electronics.
When you have a question about a specific calibre, what a service involves, or whether a particular problem is worth addressing, you can ask and receive a considered answer from someone who knows the subject.
- Formal training in watchmaking disciplines
- Experience across Swiss and Japanese calibres
- Ongoing reference to technical literature

Process
A clear sequence, no surprises
One of the most common frustrations with watch repair is not knowing what is happening or when. We try to address this with a defined process that keeps you informed at each step, particularly before any money or work is committed.
If a watch reveals something unexpected during a service — a cracked jewel, a worn pinion that changes the scope of the work — we stop, explain, and ask what you want to do. The decision stays with you.
Communication
Plain answers, not technical deflection
Watch repair can feel opaque — the inner workings are invisible and the language is specialised. We aim to explain what we find in terms that are useful to you, not in a way that obscures what is being done or why it costs what it costs.
If a repair is not worthwhile relative to the watch's value, we will say so. We would rather you make a considered decision than proceed with work that does not serve your interests.
Value
Pricing that reflects what is done
The service prices at Mainspell reflect actual time and materials, not a brand margin or a location premium. The Movement Inspection at ฿3,400 is priced to cover careful diagnostic work without overlap into service charges.
For heritage refurbishment, the price is agreed in writing based on scope — there is no floating estimate that grows unexpectedly once the watch is already in pieces.

What Sets Us Apart
Distinctive features of the Mainspell approach
Inspection as a standalone service
We offer a full written inspection without requiring you to commit to a service. For inherited or unfamiliar pieces, this means you get honest information before spending more. Most repairers bundle inspection into service costs — there is no separation.
Collaborative heritage work
Heritage refurbishment at Mainspell is a conversation, not a transaction. Each stage is confirmed with you. Decisions about refinishing, part replacement, or preservation of original finish are made jointly — not by the workshop alone.
Eastern seaboard coverage, courier welcome
Based in Bang Lamung, Chonburi, within reach of Pattaya, Si Racha, and Rayong clients. We also accept courier submissions from across Thailand, with clear handling instructions and intake confirmation.
Replaced parts returned in a bag
Any component replaced during a service is returned to you in a labelled bag with your watch. You see exactly what was changed, which is relevant both for your records and for any future repairer who works on the piece.
